If I could have any class added to our curriculum would be a songwriting course. The class would meet everyday and we would offered as an elective for a full year. They would learn about song structure,chord progression, and creative writing, Everyday they would have a daily writing prompt where they write whatever is on there mind. They will also learn how to play a basic piano or any instrument of choice. It can help get their mind going and help them get inspiration.
There would also be a songwriting forum where they peer edit each other work. It will be graded on creativity, instrumentals, grammar, and lyrics. They will learn about many famous musicians and songwriters. They would have tests on those musicians and songwriters as well. This class would be beneficial because they would learn about the writing process which would help in other subjects when writing essays. They will have a big project at the end where they write and sing their song there final exam. The whole goal of the class is to have the students grow as writers and musicians.
